Early Childhood Programs at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens

The Zoo is the perfect place for creating memorable family experiences and watching the joy and excitement in your little one’s face as they learn and interact with their favorite animals.  By introducing our earliest learners to the animal world in a fun and gentle setting, we allow them to explore and grow while supporting classroom readiness.  

Nature's Newbies (1 - 3 years old)
Each Nature's Newbies class will engage you and your child in free-choice play activities, a story, song, and more! Programs will also feature a positive and engaging interaction with one of the Zoo's animal ambassadors to allow for an up-close encounter during each class.

Zoo Tots (3 - 5 years old)
Zoo Tots focuses on specific animal themes to engage your preschooler as he/she learns about the wonders of the animal kingdom. Each program emphasizes positive and engaging interactions with animal ambassadors as well as activities, stories, and crafts that revolve around the week's central theme.

Safair Squad (5 - 7 years old)
Join the squad! Bring your 5-7 year old to the zoo for a Saturday Safari with the Safari Squad. Each month we will have a different exciting theme that will send your young explorer on an exciting adventure that revolves around one of our animal exhibits here at the Jacksonville Zoo. These special themed programs will include up-close encounters with our Education Animal Ambassadors, activities, and a stroll through that months section of the zoo.

Wild Family Workshops
Outdoor Explore! is the Jacksonville Zoo’s free family nature club. Each month we meet in a different location to explore the green spaces around our city and interact with the natural world. Outdoor Explore! is intended for children in 2nd-5th grade and their siblings of all ages!
