The Jacksonville Journey
Hope is Emerging

On December 13, 2007, Mayor John Peyton announced the creation of The Jacksonville Journey, a comprehensive, community-wide initiative aimed at stemming – and reversing – the tide of violent crime that continues to make headlines, devastate families and neighborhoods and threaten Jacksonville's future.

After months of meetings, presentations, analysis and input, you are cordially invited to attend community meetings to hear about these action steps, provide your feedback, and learn how you can help create a safer, more prosperous Jacksonville. Exhibition fair highlighting the program recommendations will begin at 5:30pm and committee presentations begin at 6:30pm.

Summer Camp Assistance Program

The Jacksonville Children's Commission provides grants to several nonprofit organizations that run summer camp programs.

Children participating in the free/ reduced lunch program or who have documented special needs or are recipients of the McKay Scholarship are eligible for seats at selected camps. Parents must contact the camp of choice directly for information about the application process and availability.

Note: Parents who receive subsidized child care will lose their funding and be placed onto the wait list if enrolling the same child into a summer camp program. Please call an eligibility specialist at 630-3647 for details.
